Delivery Options
The Durham MBA is available in five delivery options to fit flexibly with your employment, lifestyle and commitments:
- Durham MBA Full-Time: 12-month programme at Durham
- Executive MBA: a 24-month, part-time programme designed for professionals who choose not to interrupt their work commitments
- Durham Distance Learning MBA: a flexible programme that allows you to fit your learning around your life and study at your own pace anywhere in the world
- MBA Caribbean: a 24-month programme in partnership with the Caribbean Management Education Centre, delivered in Barbados by Durham Business School faculty
- DBS & EBS Executive MBA: a two-year, part-time programme delivered in Germany in partnership with European Business School
Programme Structure
The Durham MBA is structured into three consecutive stages:
- Seven core modules which provide a foundation of managerial knowledge: Managing People; Managing in the Competitive Environment; Managing in the Global Environment; Managing Finance; Managing People; Modelling and Analysis for Business; Strategic Marketing; and Methods of Inquiry
- Five electives chosen from a wide selection, which allow you to either tailor your MBA to a particular specialism or take a more generalist route.
- 15,000 word dissertation or business project, which provide an opportunity to work on a management topic of personal interest, utilising knowledge and theory acquired throughout the programme. Durham Business School has built up relationships with businesses and organisations who provide some dissertation opportunities.

The course members are one of the great strengths of the Durham MBA and our recruitment is designed to attract experience and diversity. Our typical intake consists of around 30% from the UK, with over 30 nationalities making up the rest of the group. Our students come from an unusually broad range of professional backgrounds, and include an above-average number of women managers.
We don’t pretend that the Durham MBA is anything other than challenging and demanding as we believe this is what you and employers alike expect. You will interact with faculty (one third of whom are international) and support staff of the highest calibre and use facilities which are among the best in Europe.
As part of the Continual Professional Development Programme, Durham provides students on the Full-Time and Executive MBAs with additional activities that add value to the experience, eg, boardroom activity, skills development, career management programme, international study and language opportunities, and a guest speaker programme.
