Successful
managers have proven to be sensitive and effective
by reflecting on their own and other's individual
contribution to the organisation and its members,
on their skills as a team member and on their
role as a leader. Therefore the competency-based
curriculum of the Specialised Masters Studies
promotes not only cognitive, but also emotional
and behavioural competencies as an integral
part of a student's education. Also, as professional
profiles as used in today's companies consist
of this full set of competencies, we will
enable you to acquire not only the knowledge,
but also the skills and attitudes needed for
several specific business functions such as
Financial Advisor, Consultant, Entrepreneur
and Logistics Manager.
The programmes have
been developed with the support of various
companies, of which practising managers provide
guest lectures at a regular basis in order
to discuss professional arenas with the Masters
students. Also, over 200 organisations have
been co-operating in our competency development
research which has led to the Competency Framework.
This framework will track your growth towards
the required Master's level. The Specialised
Masters Studies start each year in September
and February.

The
Master of Business Administration programme
(MBA) prepares students for the managerial
challenges of the 21st century. Students receive
a solid background in disciplines central
to the professional economist job in an international
setting. Like the Specialised Masters Studies,
the programme is geared towards competency-based
learning, with the principal objectives of
developing competencies needed in current
managerial positions while anticipating current
and future changes on the global market. The
development of knowledge expertise and behavioural
competencies are an integral part of the programme.
The courses are taught from both strategic
and operational perspectives, in order to
increase the depth, breadth and practical
use of current business topics, models and
frameworks.
The Competence Framework
against which you as an individual wish to
judge your career development will need to
be tailored to your personal goals. It is
envisaged that the development of these competencies
will allow learners to operate effectively
at a strategic level and in an international
context. In order to smooth the transition
from the more traditional approach, therefore,
the Rotterdam Business School encourages the
development of team working and group support.
