The University of Sunderland’s MBA programme is designed to develop managers and to improve the quality and coherence of professional practice. Despite a large number of undergraduate programmes in business and management, there remains a clear need to provide more strategic and interdisciplinary programmes that develop critical awareness and the ability to intervene with advanced practice solutions to resolve complex business problems. The University of Sunderland’s MBA programme has four primary objectives.

• To provide opportunity for career advancement through the development of management skills and knowledge at professional and senior manager level.
• To develop the ability to apply knowledge and understanding of business and management therefore improving best working practice in innovative ways.
• To provide an opportunity for the enhancement of learning skills and personal development to work in a self directed way to make a contribution to the organisation and wider business communities.

The MBA is an internationally recognised programme for post experience graduates with relevant work experience. Candidates on the course are likely to be mature entrants whose first degree is not in a business and management discipline and therefore the curriculum will reflect a general coverage of subject areas, subjects that are geared at the strategic rather than technical / operational level reflecting the career development aims.

The MBA is designed to draw upon the experience of the candidate and in recognition of the applied nature of the award the programme will emphasise an integrated and practical (professional) orientation over a theoretical approach.
