Business School Student Testimonial - Sameera Simjee

Here is a student case study or testimonial if you please. Sameera Simjee an MSc student was asked to talk about her year with us - why she joined the programme and how has she benefited doing the programme.

MSc in Marketing & Management graduate Sameera Simjee says ;

I decided to pursue an MSc at Loughborough University Business School because it has a very good reputation and because it was one of the only top universities offering business-related master's courses for non-business graduates.

I chose the Business School and the MSc in Marketing and Management because it was the only programme that offered a balance between the two, which was what I was after. At that juncture I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to pursue marketing or management as a career, and the Loughborough MSc was one of the only programmes that I could develop the way I wanted to. And I ended up realising that I want to pursue a career on the management side.

The university is great. I loved being here for three years when I was doing my first degree, and so to stay here and do my master's was an easy decision. The lectures were very good -- the standard of teaching was first-rate, the subjects were very relevant and up to date and the lecturers were approachable.

The calibre of students here is really high, and it's good on the social side as well. I've made a really good group of friends from doing the MSc -- and not just in Marketing and Management, but across all the programmes. Because the nature of the course is group-orientated, there was a lot of crossover among programmes, which provide you the opportunity to get to know people across the degrees. I found this to be incredibly beneficial, because teamwork plays such an important part in my job. And because I came from an undergraduate English programme where everything you do is by yourself, it was a completely new experience for me. So it was really good for me to have those skills developed.

I graduated in Autumn 2003 and started my job at Accenture (an IT management consultancy) in January 2004. My degree played a large part in my getting that job because it bolstered my application. The module that particularly helped was Marketing Management, simply for the fact that we studied in-depth a large number of companies and relevant case studies. It strengthened my ability to talk about what I was going to do in the job.
