On Wednesday 24th November 2004 the following 6 schools were awarded EQUIS accreditation –

  • University of Sydney, Faculty of Economics and Business, Australia
  • QUT, Queensland University of Technology, Faculty of Business, Australia
  • University of Otago, School of Business, New Zealand
  • The University of Auckland Business School, New Zealand
  • Waikato Management School, University of Waikato, New Zealand
  • Göteborg University, School of Economics and Commericial Law, Sweden

Julio Urgel, the Director of EQUIS added, “We are delighted to welcome 6 more leading international schools into the EQUIS community. Whilst EQUIS was born as a European initiative for the benchmarking and accreditation of business schools, it is now the leading global accreditation system. We embrace the diversity the new schools bring to the network and believe this is what makes EQUIS the most sophisticated and innovative improvement and benchmarking tool available for management education.”

Professor Barry Spicer, Dean of The University of Auckland Business School commented, “We are very pleased to join the growing number of international EQUIS accredited business schools. Achieving EQUIS accreditation is another milestone on our drive for excellence and innovation in research, learning, and partnership with enterprise that contribute towards New Zealand’s capacity to create wealth. The fact that three of the seven New Zealand university-based business schools have been accredited in this EQUIS accreditation round is also a great achievement for New Zealand business education more generally and demonstrates its international quality.”

Professor Peter Little, Dean of the Faculty of Business at QUT said, “We are delighted to be joining the EQUIS network of accredited business schools. We've learnt a lot in the self-assessment process and have already been able to implement many useful changes. We will be proud to display the world recognised symbol of academic quality for our Business School and look forward to an active involvement in EQUIS and with its members."

Professor David Buisson, Dean and Assistant Vice Chancellor of the School of Business at the University of Otago concluded, “This is a proud day for the School of Business at Otago with the award of EQUIS accreditation recognising the Schools standing as a leading School of Business in New Zealand.”

Professor Michael Pratt, Dean of the Waikato Management School said, “The Waikato Management School aims to be recognised as one of the world's leading business schools committed to sustainability. The honour of accreditation by EQUIS is an important step for us in achieving this challenge."

EQUIS is the leading international system of quality assessment, improvement, and accreditation of higher education institutions in management and business administration.
