How long do MBA courses in the UK last?

There are many types of MBA courses on offer on the UK; full-time, part-time and distant and online learning, so everyone is bound to find an MBA that caters to their individual requirements and circumstances. Full-time programmes usually last for one year, while part-time programmes, which offer students the chance to integrate studies with employment, last on average for two or three years. Distance learning provides a viable alternative for students who are unable to fit in part-time attendance or who do not have access to a school of suitable standing. These courses take an average of three to five years to complete.

 

Fees and costs for MBA courses in the UK

Tuition fees for full-time home and EU students on MBA courses in the UK vary from £5,000 right up to £50,000 depending on the institution and course content. Fees for overseas (non-EU) students are typically higher, however in both circumstances, it is best to contact the university directly to see what fees they charge. Part-time courses will cost less per year, however the final total of tuition fees over the duration of the course will be the same of that of the full-time courses. Again, part-time courses will also charge higher fees to non-EU students. Many universities offer scholarships to help pay for part of the tuition fees, but again circumstances will vary depending on the institution.

 

Career prospects for MBA graduates in the UK

MBA students can look forward to a big leap in salary once they have graduated. A survey conduct by the Association of MBA’s states that the average starting salary for graduates has risen by 72%. In 2010, the average salary for graduate MBA jobs was £32,000, with the potential for male graduates to earn up to £74,000 plus a bonus of £27,000 and women, up to £59,300 with variable earnings of £11,230.

 

A report published by London Business School has shown that the employment rates for MBA graduates rose 10% in 2010 compared with 2009 figures. 91% of graduates from London Business School found employment within three months of graduating in 2010, which 43% of 2010 MBA graduates taking up employment overseas. Of those who have already found employment, the majority (71%) started work with a new employer. Around one in 10 (12%) went back to work with a previous employer, while 8% took the plunge and started their own business.

 

According to the MBA Employment Report 2010, financial services remains the preferred career choice for graduates, with 38% choosing this sector. It is followed by 37% of graduates going into the technology and telecommunications field and 25% opting for consulting.
